ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH RESEARCH ON FLAME RETARDANTS
Introduction Flame retardants (FRs), such as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), hexabromo-cyclododecane (HBCD), novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs), phosphorus flame retardants (PFRs) and Dechlorane Plus (DPs), are widely used as additives to minimize fire risk in commercial products, such as plastics, textiles, filling materials, paints, electronic items and cable coatings. However, FRs can be released into environment via volatilization, abrasion and other processes during the product lifetime.
