EFFICIENT FLAME RETARDANT POLYVINYL ALCOHOL MEMBRANE THROUGH SURFACE GRAFT METHOD
Conventional flame retardant polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) membrane is generally prepared by physically mixing flame retardants with PVA solution.However, it is difficult for flame retardant particles uniformly dispersed in the membrane.In this research, surface graft method of a flame retardant on neat PVA membrane was adopted in instead of conventional physical mix.The performances of the surface grafted and conventional mixed flame retardant PVA membranes were compared by cone calorimetry, vertical flame and mechanical properties.The results showed that with the same flame retardant content, the former displayed much better flame retardance and mechanical properties.
