STUDY OF SOL-GEL SILICA AND HYDROMAGNESITE IN FLAME RETARDED ETHYLENE-VINYL ACETATE COPOLYMER COMPOSITES
Commonly, inorganic mineral flame retardants are not so efficient although they are environment-friendly.This work has used Sol-Gel Silica (Sol-Gel) to enhance the flame retartancy of Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA)/Hydromagnesite (HM) composites.Reaction extrusion has been applied to prepare EVA/HM/Sol-Gel nanocomposites, and the combustion behaviors have been evaluated by means of cone calorimeter (CONE) and limiting oxygen index (LOI).The results indicate the synergistic effect of Sol-Gel Silica and HM.The LOI values increase while the Time to Ignition is postphoned remarkedly.Moreover, the lower Heat Release Rate (HRR) values correspond to better charring behaviours with the presence of Sol-Gel Silica.
