PREPARATION OF A KIND OF RETARDENT FIBER-CARRAGEENAN FIBER
In this study, natural marine polysaccharide carrageenan was successfully developed into fibers via wet-spinning process in which hot water was used as a solvent. The effects of the composition and temperature of the coagulation bath on the fabricated fibers were investigated. The results showed that the presence of barium ions in the coagulation bath was favorable for the fiber formation. An increase in the temperature of the coagulation bath improved the morphology and strength of the fiber.Furthermore, this novel carrageenan fiber exhibited excellent fire resistance property;thus acting as a potential candidate for fire resistant materials.
