INVESTIGATION ON INFLUENCE OF NICKEL PHOSPHATE NANOTUBES (NIPO-NT) ON INTUMESCENT FLAME RETARDANT POLYPROPYLENE COMPOSITES
The novel nickel phosphate nanotubes (NiPO-NT) was synthesized by hydrothermal method. Then, its synergistic effects with intumescent flame retardants (IFR) containing silica-gel microencapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (OS-MCAPP) and triazine char foaming agent (CFA) on flame retarded polypropylene (PP) was studied. The limit oxygen index (LOI) of flame retarded PP composite containing 0.3wt% NiPO-NT reaches the maximum of 33.9 and the peak heat release rate (pHRR) is the minimum of 255.5kW/m2, indicating a better flame retardancy. All results show that NiPO-NT has good synergistic effects in IFR and its optimal addition amount (0.3wt%) is much lower than those of most Ni2+/Ni3+ synergists have been reported.
