HYDROPHILIC TO HYDROPHOBIC AMMONIUM POLYPHOSPHATE BY INTRODUCTION OF DOPO UNIT
A new crystal-structural ammonium polyphosphate (APP) was synthesized by diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP), melamine (MEL) and 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene 10-oxide (DOPO) in one step, the sample being named DOAPP, which is hydrophobic and highly water resistant via DOPO modification and can be applied to the polymers as flame retardant without further surface treatment.The results demonstrate that DOAPP gains favourable solubility in water which at 25 and 80 ℃ was 0.08 and 0.2 g· 100 mL-1 H2O, and promising flame retardancy, UL94 test passing VO rating and the LOI value up to 27.1%.
