A NOVEL INTUMESCENT FLAME RETARDANT SYSTEM BASED ON β-CYCLODEXTRIN FOR PLA
A novel intumescent flame retardant (PAB-CD) based on β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and P-N derivatives (PAB, synthesized by p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, diethylenetriamine and Diethyl phosphite) was prepared, which was characterized by FT-IR, 1H-HMR and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA).PAB-CD with different mole ratios of β-CD and PAB were added into PLA via melt blending and their flame retardant properties were measured by TGA, vertical burning tests (UL-94) and limiting oxygen index (LOI).The results showed that: the thermal stability and char-formation ability of PLA/PAB-CD with 30 wt% PAB-CD was better than that of pure PLA.The results showed that the ratios of PAB and CD affect the flame retardancy of PLA.PLA/PAB-CD 4/1 have the highest LOI value and UL 94 V-2 rating.
