STUDY OF THE THERMALLY STABLE NITROCELLULOSE GRAFTED WITH N-METHYLOL DIMETHYLPHOSPHONOPROPIONAMIDE
The aim of this study is to improve the thermal stability of nitrocellulose (NC) for satisfying the security of usage in the production process.Thermally stable NC, which was grafted with N-methylol dimethylphosphonopropionamide (MDPA) by using isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) as a linkage, was successfully synthesized. The structures of MDPA-NC samples were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (31P NMR).Additionally, the thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the thermal degradation curves of MDPA-NC samples were more gradual than that of NC control. Moreover, the char residues of MDPA-NC samples were increased remarkablely with increasing of MDPA contents. Those phenomena directly proved the enhancement of thermal stability of NC.
