HIGH-TOUGHENED FLAME RETARDED POLY(LACTIC ACID) COMPOSITES: FLAME RETARDANCY AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
The halogen-free flame retardant Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) composites were prepared by melt-extr usion blending of PLA and aluminum hypophosphite (AHP) and nitrogen flame retardant (MC A), and the toughness of the flame retardant PLA composites were modified using ethylene-co-a crylic ester-co-glycidyl methacry (E-AE-GMA) as modifier. The results showed the amount of AHP was 15wt%, the limited oxygen value (LOI) of FR PLA composite was 28.5%, and its UL 94 of achieved V-0 rating, With the increase of the amount of E-AE-GMA, the toughness of mo dified PLA composites were obviously increased compared than those of FR PLA composites. When the weight fraction of E-AE-GMA was 15wt%, the elongation at break and the notched impact strength of the modified FR PLA composite improved by five times and 54.8% compared to those of the FR PLA composite, respectively.
