FLAME-RETARDANT EPOXY RESIN COMPOSITES POSSESSING A PHOSPHORUS-TITANIUM SYNERGISTIC EFFECT
A new type of flame-retardant ternary EP/DOPO/Ti composites was synthesized via incorporating organo-titanate and DOPO into epoxy resins in this paper. The mechanical and thermal properties of the prepared EP composites were characterized by DMA, TG, DSC, and so on.The water absorption and contact angle were tested to provide the moisture-resistance property. The limited oxygen index (LOI) was recorded to explore the property of flame ratardancy. It showed that titanate reacted with hydroxyl of epoxy resins, resulting in decreasing the number of hydroxyl group, increasing the crossing density of EP resins, and improving its moisture-resistance.TG and DSC results showed that the incorporation of both titanate and DOPO can not only enhance the decomposition temperature and the residual char formation, but also can increase the glass-transition temperature and LOI value. Therefore, a phosphorus-titanium synergism played an important role in the EP/DOPO/Ti flame-retardant composites.
