The competitiveness evaluation of regional tourism industry responding to low-carbon economy: a case from western Hunan, China

  Researching regional tourism competitiveness in the view of low-carbon economy has important significance for the regional tourism industry safety.Fifteen third-grade indexes were determined for tourism industry responding to low-carbon economy using principal component analysis (PCA).These indexes were determined in terms of basic development competitiveness, environmental supporting power for competitiveness and competitive performance of tourism industry.Moreover, the tourism industry competitiveness responding to low-carbon economy in western Hunan, China was evaluated using multilevel grey evaluation method.The results showed that in 2013, the competitiveness index of tourism industry responding to low-carbon economy in western Hunan was 3.1637, which in Zhangjiajie city, Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture and Huaihua city were 3.6731, 2.9876 and 1.7547 respectively.It indicated that in the context of low-carbon economy, the tourism competitiveness in western Hunan was not strong and is unevenly distributed.
