Indonesia Country Report of Tea

INTRODUCTION Tea is one of leading tree crops commodities with sufficiently real contribution to Indonesian economy, by generating foreign income, enhancing farmers income, providing industrial raw materials, creating job opportunities and in regional development.Tea plantation business in Indonesia absorbed over 450,000 workers and supported the subsistence of about 1.3 millions persons.It was very intensive in absorbing workforces,with absorption ratio over 2-3 workers per hectare.In 2012, over 98,154 households were involved in Indonesian tea businesses.At the national level, this business contributes over Rp.1.2 trillions to Indonesian Gross Domestic Products (GNP) and over US$110 millions to Indonesian annual foreign income.Its contribution to agricultural sectors foreign income is about 8.41％ or 0,3％ of non oil GNP.From environmental point of view, tea culture and tea processing business is one of environmental friendly businesses in term of its supports to soil and water conservations (Ministry of Agriculture of Republic Indonesia,2014)
