Partial Physiological Responses and Corresponding Gene Expression in Tea Plant in Response to Field Drought Stress and Rewatering

Tea plant Camellia sinensis (L.) O.Kuntze is a commercially important crop and drought stress (DS) seriously limits its growth, quality and production.Different mechanisms of drought tolerance have been documented in diverse plant species including tea plant. However, different physiological responses to dehydration and rehydration in tolerant and susceptible tea cultivar and their relationship to gene expression have not been thoroughly investigated yet.A fully understanding of the response of tea plant to DS would provide us with simple, cheap and effective ways to improve its drought resistance and recovery speed. Therefore, the aim of present study was to investigate the response to dehydration and rehydration in drought susceptible and tolerant cultivar at the physiological and molecular level under field DS condition.
