Characterization of Anthocyanins and Major Biochemical Components in a Dark-purple Camellia Cultivar Ziyan
Recent interest in anthocyanins is not only due to their bright colors that attract our eyes but also due to their potential health benefits as antioxidants and antiinflammatory agents.Considering tea (Camellia sinensis L.) is used to produce the most widely consumed beverage, anthocyanin-rich cultivars have especially bright application prospect.Recently, we developed a novel dark-purple tea cultivar Ziyan. To our best known, Ziyan is the tea cultivar that has the highest anthocyanin percentage (0.088%) in fresh leaves, which is due to high amount of delphinidin derivatives. In addition, analysis of major biochemical components shows Ziyan is a good resource to make Green Tea.
