Facing The Challenges of the Flat World Paradigm
The recreation, leisure and sports field will face numerous challenges in the future.Technology, globalization, sustainability, diversity, and living longer are driving changes in our world and these changes are creating challenges for the recreation and sport professional.Challenges include programming for diverse populations, creating programs and services that are both enjoyable and sustainable, the rise of spectatorship, obesity among children and adolescents, an aging population, digital age leisure, sport participation for ulterior motives, lack of funding for programs and services, and stewardship of natural resources.By understanding the drivers of change and the dimensions of the challenges we face, the profession can work to find ways to improve recreation and leisure services for our constituents.
