Analysis of Thomas Hardys War Poems
Thomas Hardy occupies an important position in English literature as well as in the world literature.During the last 30 years of his life,he was committed to poetry and stood out as a mature poet in English poetry.His profound and penetrating criticism on war,his historical perspective on war,his true description of trauma war brought to humankind,his great attention to the situation of human existence,his sense of crisis about future and artistic technique of modern characteristics make his war poems play a vital role in all his poetry,even in the British war poetry.This thesis probes into the rich ideological content in his war poems by studying the writing features and the philosophy in Hardys war poems.Through his war poems people are aware of the crudeness of war and the disasters war brings to mankind,from which we perceive the insight and the sympathy of a great artist,and see the hope of humanitarianism.
