　　Wonderland is one of the most important masterpieces of Joyce Carol Oats,an accomplished and productive female writer in contemporary American literary world.The novel reflects the protagonist Jesse Hartes failure in pursuing American Dream.The thesis will try to analyze young adolescent Jesses experience(Book One in Wonderland)so as to demonstrate that the nature of the American Dream,under the instruction to the extreme egoism,is seemingly a “Wonderland,but actually a “Wasteland.
