The Importance of Vocabulary in CET
Because of the great influence of Chinese culture on English teaching and learning in China,much importance is now attached to vocabulary learning.While it is unlikely that the communicative approach will be adopted for those intermediate or advanced learners at college English level,a lexical approach can be more suitable for college English education,where vocabulary is of great importance as it is considered institutionalized and collocated.In such an approach,vocabulary begins to take on a new role of organizing the target language in addition to being meaningful in itself.
