An Experimental Study of the Effect of Thematic Progression and Lexical Repetition Patterns on Writing for Three-year English Majors

  Thematic Progression and Lexical Repetition Patterns are helpful in improving the textual coherence.In this paper,the influence of these two patterns on the coherence of three-year English majors argumentative writing is studied using the statistical method “paired sample T-test by means of the statistical software SPSS.The Conclusion drawn from the analysis is that after using Thematic Progression Pattern in the writing instructions,students writing coherence scores have been improved evidently(the significant difference t=-8.575),while after using Lexical Repetition Pattern in the writing instructions,there is no significant variation in students writing coherence scores.
