Modeling Simulation and Testing Research on Corona Discharge of Dampers for AC Transmission Line

Corona performance of hardware fittings is an important consideration in the design and operation of high voltage transmission lines. As the major critical suppression component, the corona discharge characteristics of dampers is directly related to the energy saving and environment protection effect. Simulation by finite element method were discussed to calculate the electric field distribution and research work of corona discharge were experimentally performed respectively both at Wuhan and Tibet. The electric-field distribution and inception voltage characteristic curves of different altitudes were also given in this paper. It indicated that the photon number measured by ultraviolet image apparatus increases exponentially with the applied voltage and the absolute value of correction errors given in this paper based on the simulated altitude test value can be controlled at not more than 5 percent, which can be regarded as theoretical basis for corona discharge, and particularly helpful for design and optimization for dampers of high altitude transmission line.
