Research on joint planning model for EVs charging/swapping facilities

Due to the increasing ownership of EVs, its a new challenge for traditional distribution network to access large charging loads. Moreover, the temporal-spatial distribution characteristics of EVs charging load should be concerned while doing distribution network planning to meet the large-scale EVs access. In the meantime, EVs charging/swapping facilities are the link of power system and transportation system and the key point to achieve energy internet, which requests both the access ability of power system and the temporal-spatial distribution characteristics of EVs charging demand should be taken into account. This paper regards EVs charging/swapping equipment as a kind of demand response resource, concludes the characteristics of central charging station, centralized swapping station and distributed charging pile and analyzes the relationship between different charging/swapping facilities and distribution network, effects from different facilities during the distribution network planning process. A joint planning model for charging/swapping facilities is proposed, which solves the sitting and sizing problems of charging/swapping facilities and investment strategy of transmission lines and transformers considering EVs traveling behavior in region. The case study takes a small region for instance and uses particle swarm algorithm to solve the proposed problem. The results show the validity of the model, it can achieve the joint optimal planning of EVs charging/swapping facilities and distribution network planning strategy and result are affected by whether there are demand response program like orderly charging and what penetration level it is.
