Role of Mn and Sion the Phase Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Duplex (ferrite plus austenite) Medium Mn Steels
The effect of Mn and Si on the microstructure and mechanical behavior of intercritical annealed duplex (ferrite plus austenite) medium Mn steels was investigated. The increased amount of Mn addition in medium Mn steels lowered the austenite transitiontemperatures, but higher Si content raises them and enlarges the two phase domain.Tensile tests showed that Mn could effectively suppress the TRIP effect, decreasing the extent of work hardening.Si was beneficial for the mechanical properties when the samples have lower austenite fractions, however, the ferrite phase became quite brittle when the Si amount reached 3 wt %,which worsened the ductility of the steel.
medium Mn steels Mn and Si effect retained austenite transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) and twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP)
