Revisiting Hydrogen Effects on ε-Martensitic Transformation
Effects of solute hydrogen on ε-martensite transformation were investigated by using microscopy, cryogenic XRD,and thermal desorption spectroscopy. The introduction of hydrogen affected the transformation behavior as follows.(1) The variant of ε-martensite became single.(2) The surface martensite fraction sharply increased with cooling compared to that without hydrogen.(3) The lattice of ε-martensite expanded by the hydrogen uptake, and gradually shrank with time even in cryogenic temperature. The third phenomenon seems to stem from a change in hydrogen position from tetrahedron to octahedron sites.
