Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ferrite-Austenite Duplex Low Density Medium Mn Steel
This study addresses the microstructure, plastic flow and fracture behavior of laboratory Al-containing medium Mn steels. After cold rolling and intercritical annealing, they present an unordinary bimodal duplex microstructure made of coarse ferrite grains and ultrafine duplex (ferrite + austenite) regions.Room temperature mechanical properties are not strongly sensitive to the annealing temperature. At lower temperature, plastic flow, fracture mode and sensitivity to brittle cracking have been related to the microstructure.
