Properties and Applications of Industrially Processed Hot Rolled High-manganese TWIP Steels
Austenitic high-manganese TWIP steels have been produced on an industrial scale in recent years. As a result substantial know-how for the technical challenges in continuous slab casting, slab adjustment,hot-rolling and pickling has been accumulated at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG and its subsidiary HoeschHohenlimburg GmbH.These steels reveal remarkable lightweight design potential compared to conventional ferritic and multiphase high strength steels and a cost saving potential compared to forged aluminium components.Yet this new class of steels has not established itself sustainably in the automotive industry. In this article frequently asked questions about part layout, computer aided design, forming and welding of parts and assemblies made of high manganese TWIP steels are illuminated and solution paths are shown.
