Cyclic Deformation and Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior in Fe-Mn-C-(Al) TWIP Steels
We demonstrate a strong dependence of cyclic stress response, fatigue crack growth threshold and crack growth rate on Al addition in Fe-Mn-C TWIP steels.Al increases the monotonic yield strength, but shows smaller initial cyclic hardening and larger later-stage cyclic softening, thus decreasing the cyclic yield strength.Furthermore,Al decreases the low-cycle fatigue lifetime and increases the fatigue crack growth threshold. The results are discussed in terms of crack deflection and roughness-induced crack closure, which is associated with the local microstructure, the evolution of substructure, the local non-uniform deformation and deformation mode,by means of OM and TEM observations, digital image correlation (DIC) method and synchrotron x-ray computed tomography (CT) analyses.
