Effect of Water Toughening Temperature on Microstructure and Properties of V-super High Manganese Steel
This paper is based on the Fe-16Mn-1.3C-0.3V super high manganese steel. The effect of water toughening temperatures of V-super high manganese steel has been investigated in the present work. The mechanical properties of the V-super high manganese steel were tested after water toughening treated at temperatures 1000 ℃、1030 ℃、1050 ℃、1080 ℃ and 1100 ℃ respectively, including tension, impact and hardness tests. The microstructure observation of the steels was carried out using X-ray diffraction(XRD),optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results show that the steel has the best comprehensive performance after water toughening treated at 1080 ℃ for 1 h with impact toughness(V-notch)of 271.2 J/cm2,hardness of 225HB,tensile strength of 832.7 MPa,yield strength of 389.7 MPa,and elongation of 40%.According to the microstructure and XRD analysis, the single phase austenite structure is obtained after the water toughening treatment. With the increase of water toughening temperature, the austenite grain size increases and the amount of carbide at grain boundaries decreases, which is in favor of impact toughness and hardness.
