Enhanced Strength and Toughness of Medium Manganese TRIP Steel Treated by Intercritical Annealing
Intercritical annealing (IA) process was applied to anultra-low carbon medium manganese transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steel. The microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated in detail.Intercritical annealing at 640℃ for 8hled to a ferrite-austenitedual-phase microstructure with excellent combination ofhigh tensile strength of 865 MPa,total elongation of 25%,and enhanced impact energy of 181 J at room temperature. Both lath-like and blocky retained austenite was observed and the volume fraction of retained austenite reached up to23%.The optimum combination of strength and toughness could be attributed to the TRIP effect of metastable retained austenite and the cooperative deformation of ferrite.
