Effect of Chromium and Nitrogen Alloyingon Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Hadfield Steel
Tensile properties,and the microstructures of three Hadfield steel with different content of chromium and nitrogen,conventional Hadfield steel (120Mn12 steel),chromium-alloyed Hadfield steel (120Mn12Cr steel),and chromium-nitrogen-alloyed Hadfield steel(120Mn12CrN steel),were studied by using tensile testing machine,metallographic microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and transmission electron microscopy in this paper.Results showed that the austenite grain size of Hadfield steel was refined with the addition of chromium and nitrogen.Hadfield steel with simultaneous addition of chromium and nitrogen possessed the smallest austenite grain size.The strength and plasticity of the 120Mn12Cr steel and the 120Mn12CrN steel were improved compared to the conventional Hadfield steel.The tensile strength of the 120Mn12CrN steel and 120Mn12Cr steel were 1043 MPa and 949 MPa,with their elongation of 39.6% and 42.8% respectively.
