An Understanding on the Effect of Various Factors on Pro-eutectoid Ferrite and Pearlite Volume Fractions in Hypo-eutectoid Steels
Effect of Si content and reaction temperature on the volume fraction of α and pearlite in fully transformed hypo-eutectoid specimens is investigated in present study.The formation condition of pearlite at incoherent α/r interface rather than α and pearlite growth kinetics is found to play a key role in determining the volume fractions in the final transformed specimens when considering the results reported in present as well as those in Fe-Mn-C system reported in literatures.An equation proposed by Aaronson et al.could be used to account the effect of various factors.
