Fracture of TWIP Steels
The easy edge crack of TWIP steels was investigated in terms of fracture mechanism by using sharp notched samples pulled at room temperature and 300℃.Crack propagate along twin boundaries, leading to a quasi-cleavage fracture mode and low edge crack resistance of TWIP steel at room temperature.A physical model was introduced for the first time to explain the twin-related crack propagation behavior. The Griffith cleavage fracture was favored by the retarded emission of dislocation due to the restriction of twin boundaries. Moreover, this kind embrittlement can be removed by elevating temperature where deformation twins are not favored.
