Effect of Strain Rate on Dynamic Deformation Behavior of Dual Phase DP780 Steel
Tensile properties of a dual phase DP780 steel was studied using dynamic tensile testing machine under a variety of strain rates (1~1000 s-1) at ambient temperature. The deformation and fracture behaviors were also investigated using SEM and TEM.The results indicate that DP780 has significant strain rate sensitivity when strain rates are between 1 s-1 and 1000 s-1.The yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of DP780 increase gradually with increasing tensile strain rates. It can be seen big and small dimples are on the fracture surfaces of DP780 under different strain rates, which reveal that the dynamic fracture mechanism of DP780 is also micro-voids aggregation and growth.Furthermore, with increasing strain rates, the dimples size decreases slightly.TEM images near the fracture surface show dislocations piled up at the interface of ferrite and martensite, which will finally result in micro-voids formation.
