Intercritical Annealing Response of Two Medium Manganese Steels Having Different Carbon Concentrations
Retained austenite fractions and tensile properties were predicted for two 4.5 wt % Mn steels having different carbon levels of 0.1 and 0.2 wt %,and the results are compared to experimental data obtained from the samples intercritically annealed at temperatures ranging from 550 to 725℃ for 1 h followed by water quenching. While the maximum retained austenite fractions are predicted to be similar in both steels, experimental results show an increased retained austenite fraction with increased C addition. Both the predicted and experimental UTS×UE values exhibit a linear relationship with the retained austenite fractions. The experimental UTS×UE values are more sensitive to the retained austenite fraction than the predicted values.
