Size Effect on Initial Dislocation Density in Low Carbon Bainitic Steels
A series of 0.25C-2Mn bainitic steels at the ultrafine-grained scale has been prepared to study the size effect on initial dislocation density. An approximately linear relationship between the lath thickness and the reciprocal square root of initial dislocation density has been found through the measurement with SEM and Synchrotron XRD respectively. The significance of this size effect is thus emphasized for the present bainite in order to avoid the overestimation of boundary strengthening.
