Slab Surface Quality of 1.35% Al-TRIP Steel

  The slab surface defect status of 1.35%Al-TRIP steel during the continuous casting process in a steel plant were investigated by SEMand mold fluxes reactivity were researched by thermodynamic calculations and high temperature static balance experiments.The results show that the reactive mold flux occurred a significant variation on chemical composition during the CC process of 1.35% Al-TRIP steel.This variation leaded to serious deterioration in mold flux properties and inhomogeneous solidification shrinkage on slab shell.As a result,the incidence of indentation and irregular oscillation marks on slab surface were increased.Meanwhile,the present study found some micro-cracks distributed along the grain boundary in indentation surface or subcutaneous.Inclusions contained K,Na were found in some indentationsampleswhile no such inclusions were found in the normal samplessurface.These findings indicatedthat changing the chemical compositions of mold flux such as improvingAl2O3/SiO2on mass can reduce the reactivity of mold flux-steel obviously.In addition,the viscosity of mold flux tended to stable when Al2O3/SiO2 increased to 1.18.After that,increasing Al2O3/SiO2has little influence on mold flux-steel reaction.
