Fracture Behavior Characterization of an Advanced High-Strength Steel
This paper addresses the experimental method for characterizing fracture behavior of AHSS.Using the proposed test approach, the mechanical properties of the material at different tensile strain rates and a variety of stress states are obtained. The experimental data are properly processed, with which a Modified Mohr-Coulomb fracture model is calibrated for fracture simulation and prediction of the material. With the MMC model, the plastic and fracture behavior of the material is analyzed via simulation at material level by using the explicit finite element code of LS-DYNA.The correlation results clearly show the feasibility of the proposed test method for fracture characterization,as well as the validity of MMC fracture model in fracture behavior prediction.Using the simulation approach presented in this paper can support AHSS energy-absorbing component design and simulation.
