The Plastic Deformation Behaviors of DP800 and DP1200 under Different Strain Rates

The two types of cold-rolled dual phase steels,DP800 and DP1200,were required to do the tensile tests under nine different strain rates between 10-4s-1 to 1000s-1.After that, the mechanical propertiesand morphologies of those two kinds of dual phase steels were obtained and analyzed.According to the C-J model, the plastic deformation characteristics of dual phase steel under different strain rates were studied.Fracture morphologies were carried out by SEM.The results reveal that dual phase steel has obvious strain rate sensitivity,DP1200 is a relatively pure ferrite and martensite dual phase structure, while DP800 also contains 6.8% retained austenite. There are two stage strain hardenging characteristics in DP1200.In the first stage, the strain hardening ability of ferrite is higher, and the second stage is martensite deformation stage, the strain hardening ability is lower. However three stage deformation characteristics is formed in DP800 steel, which is due to the apprearance of retained austenite.Dual phase steel fracture is a typical dimple fracture. With the increase of strain rate, the size of the dimple becomes larger, and the depth increases. It is indicated that the dual phase steel can absorb more energy with increasing strain rate.
