Spatio-temporal Characteristics of Plastic Instability in Medium Mn AHSS Deformation
Significant research has recently focused on the Third Generation Advanced High Strength Steels (Gen.3 AHSS) to achieve greater fuel efficiency while maintaining safety and comfort in todays automobiles. The combination of extremely high strength and ductility has been achieved through inter-critical annealing of medium manganese (5~10 weight percent of Mn) transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steels. However, this kind of material referred to as Medium Mn AHSS has revealed plastic instability during deformation, which is critical for stamping application and crash performance. The present work systematically investigated the spatio-temporal characteristics of plastic instability in Medium Mn AHSS.It was found that this plastic instability behavior was significantly relying on sample geometry and loading condition.
