TWIP Steel Cutting Process Assessment with the Use of Damage Models

Materials with increased strength properties are strongly demanded nowadays, however their processing becomes a difficult issue in many cases. The new materials are challenging for the processing on existing technological equipment. In the current case the possibility of steel band cutting is investigated. The material investigated is TWIP steel that is going to be assessed from the experimental and FEM simulation point of view.Bands cutting process is a basic technology that is going to be scrutinized here from forces point of view. The available equipment might face difficulties with this kind of material and thus detailed process analyse is carried out for cutting process. The calibration of cutting process for TWIP band is assessed here in order to evaluate capacities of available technological equipment, especially from the maximum force limit. In order to assess the forces taking place in the course of the cutting process,a FEM simulation by DEFORM program with incorporated damage models is carried out.Cockroft-Latham and Oyane damage models available in DEFORM are employed. The parameters for these models are identified on the basis of tensile and torsion tests that describe material behaviour under various loading conditions. The material model is developed and verified with the direct measurement during laboratory simulation of cutting process.
