Spatial Restriction Effect in the γ→ε Martensitic Transformation in High-Mn Steel

1 Introduction Manganese is an austenite stabilizing element like nickel and 15%Mn addition is enough to suppress the direct martensitic transformation from fcc (γ) to bcc (α).However,manganese also lowers the stacking fault energy (SFE) and the minimum SFE is obtained at the composition of around 15%Mn1,2.
