Overview and Analysis of Safety Risk Studies
Great endeavors have been made to promote safety, especially in industry and traffic domain, but accidents and injuries still plague people.Recently there had been an emergence of a variety of safety research from the point of risk.Hence a systematic review of previous studies is paramount for facilitating sharing useful research findings and accessing future trends in safety risk research.The paper reviews past progress in the development of content, methods and models for safety risk and highlights the present research trends;also it outlines the opinions of the authors regarding the future research direction in the field.Based on the open literature published in the leading joumals in the field of safety risk, the analysis focused on journal title, publication year, country/region distribution, industry type and research topic.Four groups of safety risk research were identified.The first group of research aims to explore the safety risk perception.The second group is conducted from the aspect of safety risk analysis, such as risk factor, risk-taking behavior, high-risk people, risk index, risk model, risk criterion and so on.The third group utilizes various quantitative and qualitative methods to assess safety risk, such as Fuzzy Set Theory, Bayesian Networks, Fault Tree Methodology, Risk Matrix, Monte Carlo Simulation, Analytic Hierarchy Process, etc.The forth group focuses on how to treat safety risk, including risk reduction, risk compensation, risk predict, risk communication and so on.Two main research fmdings including safety risk research perspectives, the methodology of safety risk analysis and assessment, were gained.Finally, this review identified and discussed research gaps which can serve as guidance for future safety risk research.It is expected that it will help researchers and practitioners to gain a better understanding of the existing research.At the same time the aim is to provide direction to bridge the existing gaps through research and developments.
