Evaluation of Fire-Fighters Cardiorespiratory State Based on Frequency Analysis of Heart Rate
As the environmental condition of fire-fighters work is severe, the evaluation based on on-line measurement is very important to secure the safety of fire-fighters operation.Conventional indices by physiological measurement are well known.Physiological measurement, however, is only available before and after fire-fighting operation.Alternative indices to evaluate fire-fighters fatigue are proposed based on physical measurement.Heart rate fluctuation and power spectnmm density of RR-intervals which are derived from cardiopulmonary data by applying frequency analysis are employed.Change of these indices is to be considered as the influence of cardiopulmonary load and reflex of respiration. To evaluate its applicability of proposed indices, these indices were applied for the evaluation of fire-fighters status during the developed fire-fighting standardized test procedure. It became clear that these indices provide better understanding for cardiopulmonary load and fire-fighters physical status than heart rate itself.
