Development of an Integrated Hazard Vocabulary Set for Toy Recall Text Mining
1 Introduction In 2007, the largest US toy-maker Mattel, recalled more than 9 million Chinese made-toys due to excessive lead paint and small parts contained in the toys.In Europe, by the year of 2015, toy recalls made up 27% of recall notifications, among them 75% were manufactured in China.Safety is an essential feature of toy products, as users of them are the most vulnerable consumer segment.Hazard identification is the core step in the process of market surveillance by regulators and by manufacturers for deciding whether recall decision should be made or not.A product may contains various inherent hazards (such as sharp edge, point and corner), and products being utilized by different group of users (region, ethnicity, and culture) can lead to diverse injury types (such as laceration, puncture and crushing). At present, hazard vocabulary sets provided by various international standards differs each other according to respective purposes of the international standards. However, it is not sufficient to identify accurate hazard type when single hazard vocabulary set alone is used.An integrated hazard vocabulary set needs to be developed.
