Experimental Study of the Boilover Fire under Cross Wind
Boilover is a violent ejection of the fire due to the vaporization of a water sub-layer under the fuel layer. Some serious boilover fire accidents occurred in the oil storage facilities.Since the oil storage facilities are usually in the open space, the environmental wind is an important factor for the occurrence and evolution of the boilover fire.In order to study the influence of crosswind on boilolver fire characteristics, small scale experiments with crude oil on boilover fire with diameters of 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2m were conducted in quiescent and crosswind ambient air conditions, respectively.A wind wall system with two axial flow fans was designed and used to produce the different velocities of crosswind within a wind speed range from 0 m/s to 1.5 m/s.
