Study of Vent Area on Premixed Gas Explosion Venting in Linked Vessels

An explosion venting experiment was carried out in two different-volume spherical vessels connected by cylindrical pipes, which also called linked vessels.Flame propagation and development tendency of pressure were studied under same conditions. The study shows that the flame is accelerated from the primary vessel to the secondary vessel, but the speed is lower than it in closed vessel.Venting pressure and pressure rising rate both rise with the decrease of vent areas. Both maximum venting pressure and maximum pressure rising rate are higher than the value in single vessel with same vent areas due to the effects of flame acceleration in pipes and pressure piling. The effects are more obvious, especially when small vessel is used as the secondary vessel. As a result, the explosion venting design standards and codes in single vessel can not be used for linked vessels.
