Elastic Modulus of Alumina Carbon Refractory in Four Point Bending Test

  Carbon-bonded alumina refractory composites were prepared with coarse alumina grains as the aggregates, flake graphite and glassy carbon from pyrolysis of phenolic resin as the matrix.The mechanical behavior and elastic modulus of the composites were investigated at room temperature with static resistance strain gauge in four-point bend test.It was shown that alumina-carbon composite exhibited an irreversible strain and non-linear behavior in the loading-unloading process.The secant modulus decreased with increasing content of aggregate.The cleavage, sliding and crumpling of flake graphite and development of microcrack at the matrix-aggregate interface resulted in a non-linear behavior of the refractory.
