Investigation on Sintering Behavior of Different Sized Alumina Power
The linear change, cold mechanical strength and the degree of densification of these samples before and after firing at 1400 and 1500℃ were compared to investigate the sintering behaviors of alumina powders with different particle sizes.The results show that the samples with about 5% dried alumina gel have a better sintering property than the samples with the same amount of nano-sized alumina at the firing temperature of l 500℃, because dried alumina gel has a higher specific surface area.On the other hand the samples with nano-sized alumina have a better sintering property than those with dried alumina gel when the amounts of the nanometer powders are 20% or more, possibly because higher amounts of dried alumina gel tend to form agglomerates.
