Characteristic Contrast between Inclusions Formed in Steelmaking Process and Inclusions Causing Breakage
Composition, thickness and morphology of inclusions appearing on the ruptured surface of tire cord were studied and compared with inclusions formed in steelmaking process. The results showed inclusions causing breakage were Al2O3, Al2O3SiO2,and Al2O3·MgO.Most of them contain Al2O3 over 65wt.% and with thickness more than 13μm.Inclusions appearing on the ruptured surface of tire cord were with large size, high Al2O3 content and lumpy morphology.Inclusions observed in the whole process contained Al2O3 less than 35wt.%.Transverse dimensions of inclusions observed in steel rod were less than l 0μm.From the size, composition and morphology of inclusions, inclusions appearing on the ruptured surface of tire cord were neither deoxidation products nor which causing by slag.
