A Facile Catalyst-free Synthesis of Hybrid with SiOx Spheroids Anchored Expanded Graphite
A facile approach was developed to synthesize SiOx spheroids on expanded graphite (EG) by silicon vapor deposition. The fabrication of EG/SiOx hybrid was carried out at 11 00 ℃ and 1200 ℃ in an enclosed crucible which contained silicon powder on the bottom and EG upwards. The growth of SiOx spheroids is controlled by vapor-solid mechanism.Namely, the active carbon atoms absorbed SiO (g) and Si (g) to form SiC nuclei. Then, the SiO2, residual SiO (g) and Si (g) deposited on SiC nuclei to form SiOx spheroids. At 1300 ℃ and 1400 ℃, the same SiOx spheroids formed as well as ordinary and dumbbell-shaped β-SiC whiskers.
