Thermodynamic Assessment and Process Optimization of Self-diffusion High-temperature Nitriding Synthesis of Mg-α/β-SiAlON

  High efficient and comprehensive utilization of magnesium-containing resources, developing high value-added products is an important development direction that use of magnesium-containing resources in Chinas.Basic on the existing researches, the improvement of the production processes of Mg-a/β-SiAlON determines conditions of process which will be fit for making Mg-a/β-SiAlON powder by lower grade magnesite.In this paper, metal aluminum, metal fume, a-Al2O3 powder and medium magnesite powder are the main raw materials,supplemented by a small amount of additives (Y2O3,Dy2O3 and Er2O3), Mg-α/β-SiAlON was prepared by high temperature nitriding.The amount of Mg-α/β-SiAlON of each sample by XRD analysis, and influence of different sintering aids (Y2O3, Dy2O3 and Er2O3), on Mg-a/β-SiAlON synthetic was explored.The results showed that: 1.Medium magnesite, Si powder, Al powder anda-Al2O3 are the main raw materials, and a single-phase rare earth oxides Y2O3,Dy2O3, Er2O3 as additive, can be used to Mg-a/β-SiAlON.The promoting sintering role of Y2O3 is superior to Dy2O3 and Er2O3 under the experimental conditions.2.The single sintering aid Y2O3 is better than the composite sintering aids A (Y2O3+Dy2O3+Er2O3) > B(Y2O3+Er2O3) under the experimental conditions.
